Rotterdam is a dazzling city with famous attractions like Spido, Euromast, ssRotterdam and Blijdorp Zoo. Rotterdam offers a lot in the field of culture as well, such as prominent museums like Boijmans – Van Beuningen, World Museum and the Art Hall. Besides, The city organizes big festivals and events throughout the entire year such as Rotterdam Unlimited and the Marathon.

During the last few years Rotterdam has built up a great reputation thanks to modern architecture such as the magnificent Erasmus Bridge, the cube houses and the Central Railway Station. Shopping centre Alexandrium and the shops in the city centre are open 7 days a week. After shopping you can catch up in one of the fantastic restaurants or trendy clubs. Rotterdam is known for its hospitality with a wide range of B&B’s and hotels.

Our city is a dynamic metropolis, world-famous for its large port. The port of Rotterdam is the largest port of Europe. You must definitely visit this port. You can experience it from the water by means of impressive sailing tours.

In 2014 both Rough Guides and the New York Times recommended this city as must-see city. Rough Guides listed us as number 8 in the ‘Top cities’ list and the New York Times listed Rotterdam as number 10 in the’52 Places to Go in 2014′ list.

On 1st October 2014 Rotterdam opened the first covered food market of the Netherlands, called the Market Hall, with 96 booths and 20 shops and restaurants offering a wide range of good food. Her Majesty Queen Máxima opened this food market.

  • With approximately 600.000 inhabitants Rotterdam is the second largest city of the Netherlands.
  • The city came into being in 1270 and has had municipal laws since 1340
  • The most dramatic event in the history of Rotterdam took place on 14th May 1940. On that particular Tuesday during the first year of the Second World War almost the entire historical city centre was destroyed.
